Police spokesperson HollyMcPherson says police are not releasing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

NEWPORT NEWS -- A Newport News police officer was arrested after investigators say he got into a dispute with his wife and threatened to burn down their house.

30-year-oldChristopher B. Hancock is now on unpaid administrative leave following the April 2 incident at their home in Denbigh.

Hancock was arrested Tuesday on a charge of threat to burn, which carries a one to ten year sentence, says police spokeswoman Holly McPherson.

Hancock joined the force in 2011 and was assigned to the department's South Precinct as a patrol officer.

An administrative investigation will be conducted by the Department's Professional Standards Office, McPherson adds.

He's due in court May 1, officials withJuvenile and Domestic Relations District Court said.
