NORFOLK --Across the country and especially right here in Hampton Roads, mixed martial arts, or MMA, is popular with young athletes.

With parents in tow, children who dream of mixing it up in the cage are flocking to studios to learn the basic tools for MMA.

'If it hurts, I just have to suck it up and go with it,' said a 10-year-old competitor.

One father explained why he lets his sons train: 'I 'd rather they learn this in the gym and be able to defend themselves than [learn this] on the playground somewhere.'
