ELIZABETH CITY -- A bicyclist who was struck by an Elizabeth City State student Wednesday night remains in the ICU unit at a Norfolk hospital after sustaining several serious injuries.

Elizabeth City Police spokesman Captain John Young says 44-year-old Demetrius Banks was riding a bicycle through the intersection of Peartree Rd. and Halstead Blvd. around 7:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Tasia Foote.

According to Young, evidence shows Banks impacted the front bumper, hood and windshield of the vehicle.

Banks was transported to Albemarle Hospital and subsequently flown to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.

Banks suffered from multiple fractures to both legs and head trauma and is on a ventilator at Norfolk Sentara Hospital, Young said.

Foote had glass in her eyes and face and was seen at Albemarle Hospital.

No charges to either party have been filed, Young said. Police continue to investigate.
