UPDATE 11:05 a.m.: The gas line has been secured and all affected roadways have reopened.

SUFFOLK -- Crews are on the scene of a gas leak in the 2500 block of Bridge Road near Bennetts Pasture Road.

Residents in the area are asked to shelter in place.

Officials say a contractor doing work in the area damaged a 6' gas main around 10 a.m.

Columbia Natural Gas is currently en route.

Bridge Road is currently shut down to Crittenden Road for northbound and southbound traffic until further notice. An officer is also positioned at Crittenden Road at Bridge Road to detour southbound traffic.
