NEWPORT NEWS-Two men were shot early Tuesday in Newport News.

Police were called to 1100 block of 34th Street around 6:15 a.m. and found the men outside a house.

Spokesman Lou Thurston said the men, ages 38 and 40, were in the hospital.

He said one man was outside and got into an argument. Two people inside the house saw what was happening and went out and that's when gunshots rang out. Two people were hit and the third person ran off.

Jennifer Edwards posted on the WVEC13 Facebook page.

'Yes my children and many others were out at the bus stop waiting when this happened! Please pray for our community and our nation as a whole!'

Elsie Powell added, 'It's a shame...these fools knew that kids would be at bus stops, but continue to discharge firearms anyway.'

Police stressed there are no school bus stops in the area and no children were at the scene of the shooting.

Newport News Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Price says there were no issues with the bus schedule because of the incident.

Anyone with information that can help police in the investigation can call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
