The crossing on Delaware Road remains closed so people who live in the area cannot cross there.
SOUTHAMPTON CO. - Two people were hurt when a CSX train derailed in Franklin early Thursday.
The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. and Southampton County deputies rescued the two from the burning train.
Sheriff Drewery said there were two engines attached pulling cars behind them and it somehow derailed. The cars were headed to the Ashland plant.
One person was taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin and a second person was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A hazardous materials team from the Va. Dept of Emergency Management is on site to clean up diesel fuel that spilled from a ruptured tank. A representative from CSX is there as well.
VDOT saidRoute 671 between routes 650 and 687 was closed, but Major Gene Drewery with the Southampton County Sheriff's Office said that's no longer the case and that only Delaware Road was closed as of 6:00 a.m.
