PORTSMOUTH -- The Coast Guard medevaced a 35-year-old man Tuesday from a cruise ship approximately 180 miles east of Nags Head, N.C.

Officials say Brent Killian was in 'medical distress.' He was rescued from the 965-foot cruise ship Norwegian Gem.

Coast Guard watchstanders launched crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 5 p.m., hoisted Killian and took him back to the air station.

Killian was then transferred to an ambulance crew who took him to Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City where is listed in stable condition.
