GLOUCESTER -- Dominion Virginia Power has completed the installation of the state's largest rooftop solar system.
The solar array is atop the Canon Environmental Technology plant in Gloucester. In all, more than 2,000 solar panels have been planted on the roof of the building.
The rooftop solar power system was dedicated during a special ceremony Tuesday.
The solar panels will generate more than 500 kilowatts of electricity, or enough to power 125 homes.
Dominion plans to construct and operate up to 30 megawatts of company-owned solar facilities on leased rooftops or on public and commercial grounds throughout the state.
When fully complete, the program will be able to generate enough power for 7,500 homes.
