PORTSMOUTH The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a possible missing boater.
A small boat was found adrift in the Rappahannock River near Totuskey Creek leading to a search being carried out by the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy.
According to a news release, The 10 foot aluminum skiff, which has a Virginia registration number and the name 'Quachica' on it, was found unmanned and partially submerged by a good samaritan. It was subsequently reported to Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads Command Center watchstanders at about 9:42 a.m.
The Coast Guard said their boat completed its search at 5:13 p.m. with no sightings of anyone in distress.
Helicopter aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Naval Station Norfolk also assisted in the search. They completed their search patterns at 12:54 and 3 p.m., respectively, with no results.
Local law enforcement agencies stated that there were no missing person reports filed.
The release said they issued an urgent marine information broadcast, and then dispatched a crew aboard a 25-foot Boat from Coast Guard Station Milford Haven to search for anyone who may have been on the boat. Helicopter aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and Naval Station Norfolk are also assisting in the search.
