NEWPORT NEWS -- Residents in the Southeast community in Newport News gathered for a monthly meeting, and organizers wanted to hear the concerns of the neighborhood children. They discussed the recent shootings and violence.

11-year old Sean Gethers said, '...being young I'm still discovering stuff and don't feel safe on the streets, I don't like to walk outside, I'm usually isolated in my house.'

During the meeting a pastor from We Are One Church discussed ways to get residents more involved in improving their community. Pastor Jim Moynihan stated, 'I'm in the connection making business. I don't bring the solutions, I just try to get them connected.'

He added, 'When the people get connected, then the hope they have will mobilize, and then the mobilization gets results.'

After the meeting, youngsters passed out questionnaires to the adults with questions on how to improve their neighborhoods.
