SUFFOLK -- A woman is in the hospital tonight after her car ran off the road and struck a tree.
Emergency officials responded earlier this afternoon to an accident which briefly closed one lane of Portsmouth Boulevard/Route 58.
Officials received a 911 call just at 6 p.m. for a single vehicle accident just before the weigh scales.
A preliminary investigation determined that a Honda Accord left the roadway and struck a tree, partially ejecting the 27-year old woman driver.
The woman was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
