NEWPORT NEWS-- One person was injured after an apparent flash fire in the 4000 block of Jefferson Ave. in Newport News Monday.

According to Newport News Fire officials, crews found an injured 49-year-old male when they responded to the call around 1:30 p.m.

They called Nightingale Air Ambulance to transport the victim to the burn unit at Norfolk General.

Officials believe the he was working on a vehicle. An ignition source was present that ignited fuel and created a flash fire that injured him.

There was no structural damage reported.
