NEWPORT NEWS - A man was shot and then robbed in outside Olde Towne Market and Deli a little after 6:00 p.m Tuesday.

Surveillance video shows the 26-year-old standing outside the store when 3 people rushed him, threw him against the front of the market, then knocked him to the ground. The video shows one of the attackers run off, while the others stayed behind.

One who remained pulled a gun and shot the victim. The other person went through the 26-year-old's pockets. They took off in the opposite direction of the first attacker who left.

Charlie Saman who manages the store his family owns was behind the deli counter, and heard the victim hit the storefront when the attackers threw him against the window.

'I'm coming, you know, to see what's going on, and move the guys. By the time I get to the door: shot fire,' recalled Saman. 'I locked the door, and I tell everybody to back up.'

The manager told 13News there were more than a dozen people in the business at the time, a mix of relatives and other employees who work there and customers.

'We want to end violence. We want to be with the police. We want to make it a safe community for us, loved ones, you know, for our families to be able to go in and shop anywhere, here and everywhere else,' said Saman.

The person who was shot works at a barber shop in the shopping strip where the market is located. He was in stable condition after being treated for gunshots to his abdomen, hip, thigh and ankle, Master Police Officer Harold Eley said.

Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
