11/21 UPDATE: Pitman faced video arraignment at 11:00 a.m. Thursday and has a bond hearing at 9:00 a.m. Friday, Commonwealth's Attorney Macie Pridgen told

VIRGINIA BEACH-- Police arrested a Chesapeake sheriff's deputy Wednesday for sexual assaults he allegedly committed against 2 children in the mid-1980s.

Keith James Pitman faces 2 counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery and 2 counts of Forcible Sodomy of a Victim Under the Age of 13.

Pitman, who is 42 years old now, would have been a child, himself, at the time.

'I'm flabbergasted. My heart just jumped out,' said Teresa Parker who lives across the street from Pitman.

Parker told 13News Now that Pitman and his housemate are quiet, adding that during the several years they have lived on MacArthur Road, neither has been any trouble.

'When somebody broke in their house over there, he was gonna put cameras up so he could view the whole neighborhood, too, so he could watch everything to make sure everybody was safe,' said Parker. 'I thought he was one of the good ones, you know.'

Pitman has worked in the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office for more than 15 years, and was assigned to the Court Security Section. Currently, he is on suspension.

Pitman is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond. He is scheduled for arraignment in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Thursday.

The case remains under investigation.
