VIRGINIA BEACH-- The city council Tuesday night voted to allow dogs to be walked on the boardwalk at the height of the tourism season.

People will be able to walk their leashed dogs on the Boardwalk and on nearby grassy areas between 6 and 10 a.m. each day during the city's high tourism months.

The beach would still be off-limits to dogs during tourist season.

Council voted 10 to 1 to ease restrictions.
