UPDATE 7 a.m.: One of the injured victims was pronounced dead at the hospital, Parker-Chesson said. The deceased victim has been identified as 33-year-old James A. Wilson of Chesapeake.

Police say he got out of his vehicle to place something in his trunk when he was struck by another vehicle traveling in the same direction. The impact pinned him between the two cars.

The drivers of the both vehicles remain in serious condition, but are expected to recover.

NORFOLK -- Police are trying to figure out what caused several cars to collide in Norfolk Tuesday night.

The accident happened in the 1500 block of Wesleyan Drive around 9:30 p.m., according to police spokesperson Karen Parker-Chesson.

Three were transported to nearby hospitals to be treated for serious injuries. An infant was transported to CHKD with injuries that don't appear to be life threatening.

One of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries, Parker-Chesson said.
