NORFOLK -- The body pulled from the water near Pier 5 at Naval Station Norfolk was identified as a member of USSCarr.

The body of Seaman Mason Alvey, in civilian clothing, was reported around 7:35 a.m. Thursday.

Naval Criminal Investigative Service is continuing its investigation.

Pier 5 is in the area where surface combatant ships like destroyers, cruisers and frigates are docked.

Deborah Kallgren with Naval Medical Center Portsmouth said that the Armed Forces Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy that led to a positive identification.
