MELFA (AP) -- Virginia has opened a 35,000-square-foot seafood processing, marketing and storage center on the Eastern Shore.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says the Melfa facility also includes office space, cold storage and other features intended to assist commercial fishermen and clam and oyster farmers.

The complex is named for Robert S. Bloxom, a former state delegate from the Eastern Shore and a former secretary of agriculture and forestry.
