NEWPORT NEWS - Newport News Police say a man cased a business minutes before he robbed it Saturday night.

It happened just before 9:00 p.m. at Dollar General at 5920 Jefferson Ave.

Police released surveillance camera video and images of the man walking into the store shortly before it was robbed.

In the robbery, he was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with white writing on the front, blue jeans and a black baseball cap.

Authorities say he asked to see the manager and then told her he was going to rob the store and demanded money. She put the cash into plastic bag, which the robber took as he left.

The suspect is black, 150-160 pounds, 5'5' to 5'8' tall, and in his late 20s to early 30s.
