NEWPORT NEWS-Seven people escaped fire in their Newport News home on Wednesday.

Firefighters believe fire started near the panel box in the basement of the 12th Street home.

Crews say the six adults and one child in the home were already outside when they arrived around 10:00 a.m. and the Red Cross is helping them.

They can't stay in the home for now because the power has been turned off and there is a lot of smoke damage, fire officials stated.
