NEWPORT NEWS-Police say a man dropped off girlfriend's nine-year-old son at a relative's home, but no one was there and he left the child.

It was about 40 degrees, windy and rainy on the afternoon of November 27 when the youngster made his way to the Newport News Market at 23rd Street and Chestnut Avenue.

Spokeswoman Holly McPherson says the store owner said the boy was crying and said he was supposed to be dropped off at the home on 23rd Street.

Further investigator led to the arrest of 33-year-old Roger Ricks on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, McPherson added.
