HAMPTON- Firefighters fought a house fire on West Chamberlain Avenue in Hampton Thursday afternoon. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor of the home.
The fire broke out around noon when the residents were not at home.
A neighboring house sustained exterior flame damage due to its close proximity to the house.
Two firefighters were slightly injured when the roof of a porch that they were on detached from the front of the house and collapsed. The firefighters were taken to Sentara Careplex to be evaluated and are now back on the job.
An investigator determined that the fire originated in the floor joists below a second floor bedroom. The fire was ruled accidental and electrical in nature.
