SUFFOLK -- Suffolk Fire & Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to an apartment fire in downtown Suffolk Monday night.

The call came in the 900 block of East Washington Street just after 7 p.m. Monday, according to fire officials.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found the second floor apartment on fire, officials said. The ground floor apartment was vacant.

Firefighters managed to put the flames out within minutes.

Two adults have been displaced. A male resident was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
