NORFOLK -- 500 newly-selected chief petty officers are spending Monday and Tuesday learning about the heritage of their new rank.

The 14th annual CPO Heritage Days runs from 5:30 a.m. to noon at Nauticus and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum in downtown Norfolk.

Activities include a presentation on Iowa Class battleships, a history of the WAVES (Women Activated for Volunteer Emergency Service) and an opportunity for Chief selectees to discuss CPOs past and present with current and former Navy Chiefs.

The Navy says the two days is filled with programs and events so chief candidates can better understand 'the true meaning behind the U.S. Navy's mission, vision, guiding principles and core values honor, courage and commitment.'
