VIRGINIA BEACH -- Nearly a half dozen homes in the Sandbridge area were damaged by a tornado.
According to Mary Hancock, a spokesperson for the city of Virginia Beach, houses along Sandpiper and Sandfiddler roads were damaged; the second floor on one home was destroyed.
Fortunately, no one was in the homes at the time.
Video from 13News shows damaged decks, roofs and exposed insulation.
At 7:00 p.m., police closed Sandbridge Road to keep people out of the damaged community. Officials said people already in the area can leave, but they will not be allowed back in until it's safe.
The city will announce when the road is re-opened.
The city of Virginia Beach ordered a mandatory evacuation of Sandbridge on Friday.
