RICHMOND-- Governor Bob McDonnell Monday unveiled the design for the proposed Public Safety Memorial launching a fundraising campaign to build it.
The governor was joined by public safety officials, Memorial Fundraising Committee co-chairs Jerry Kilgore and Terry McAuliffe, representatives from the Virginia Public Safety Foundation and elected officials at a news conference to kick off the campaign.
The governor unveiled the rendering of the Public Safety Memorial with the help of Sue Garbarino and her daughters Natalie and Katherine Garbarino. Master Police Officer Michael Garbarino died in the line of duty on May 17, 2006.
Virginia is one of six states that does not have a statewide Public Safety Memorial.
