NORFOLK--Norfolk-based USS Nicholas gets a new commanding officer Thursday afternoon.

Cmdr. Cory Blaser will relieve Cmdr. Steve F. Fuller during the 2:00 p.m. change of command ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk.

USS Nicholas returned July 19 after completing a Fourth Fleet Combating Transnational Organized Crime (CTOC) deployment, while supporting Operation Martillo.

The guided-missile frigate and her crew patrolled the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Pacific Ocean in support of Operation Martillo, a multinational partnership designed to stop and deter the drug trade. Nicholas seized $515 million worth of cocaine and marijuana and captured 14 suspected drug smugglers.

Commodore Destroyer Squadron Two Six Captain Nelson Castro was to preside over the change of command ceremony.
