NORFOLK--Your donations to the 13News Write Stuff campaign will ensure needy students will have the supplies they need for school.

The Salvation Army will be distributing supplies through the end of the week.

Captain Brett Meredith of The Salvation Army said, 'Because of their support, we will be able to help 5,000 children in Hampton Roads prepare to go back to school.'

If you need supplies, go to the Salvation Army at 5516 Raby Road from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and complete an application. Parents/guardians must have picture ID, proof of income or public assistance, a birth certificate and social security card for each child ages 4-18.

Lawanda Young was among 330 families who have been helped so far.

'This will be my third year participating in the program and it helps out a lot because I have 4 kids. I have to get bookbags for all of them and it helps out a lot,' she said.

On the first day, 920 children received supplies thanks to your donations.

Supplies are still needed. The Salvation Army is looking for paper, wide rule (800 packs) and college rule (650 packs) and pens (350 packs of 10) that can be dropped off at the Raby Road office.

During distribution, The Salvation Army will take applications for Christmas assistance. Birth certificates and social security cards are for identification purposes only and confidential information will not be recorded and /or kept.
