PORTSMOUTH -- Voters in Portsmouth re-elected Kenny Wright as mayor.

Wright was challenged by Vice-Mayor Charles Whitehurst and both men were working the polls on Tuesday.

Voters told 13News they want City Council and the mayor to work together for the city's benefit.

Wright said his challenge is to change how Council is viewed.

'We are clearly a team and we're going to act like a team. Unfortunately, one or two can make the whole batch look bad. We're not going to focus on them. We have a team that clearly understands the challenges we have in this city,' he said.

As for Whitehurst, he will lose his Council seat in January.
