SUFFOLK- Dog owners in Suffolk have new restrictions on tethering their pets.

City Council Wednesday night decided to approve a ban on dog-tethering that will take effect Sept. 1, according to the Virginian Pilot, and violating it carries a $250 fine.

The city joins Hampton in banning the practice.

Suffolk Council had been considering placing time limits and other restrictions on pet owners.
