SUFFOLK --The homeowner is okay, but two dogs died when fire swept through a Suffolk home early Monday.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 2300 block of Copeland Road.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, said City spokesman Tim Kelly, and one firefighter was treated on the scene for heat exhaustion.

It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control, he added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
