NORFOLK -- The Virginian-Pilot reported Saturday that one of its longtime columnists, Guy Friddell, Jr., died at the age of 92.

Our partners at The Pilot said Friddell suffered from dementia and declining health for several years. He passed away in his sleep at Harbor's Edge retirement community, located on Colley Avenue near the Elizabeth River waterfront.

Friddell is survived by sons Rusty, Mac, and Winn Cullen Friddell, and 8 grandchildren.

According to the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc. Web site, Friddell's family will receive visitors at the chapel in Norfolk Sunday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The chapel address is 1501 Colonial Avenue.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, located at Colonial and Redgate Avenues, Norfolk.

You can read more about Friddell in Earl Swift's article from The Virginian-Pilot.
