NEWPORT NEWS -- One person suffered minor injuries Monday morning in a Newport News kitchen fire, officials said.

Crews responded to a house fire on Astor Drive in the Stoneybrook section of the city around 8:30 a.m.

Two people were able to escape before the fire department arrived, but one suffered a minor burn injury to the hand and was treated at the scene, fire officials said.

Preliminary damage is estimated to be $10,000 and the house is being condemned.

Two people are displaced but will be staying with relatives, officials said.
