NEWPORT NEWS - Fire damaged a home in Newport News early Monday.

Crews were called to the two-story home at 3201 Marshall Avenue around 8:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, our crews encountered heavy fire conditions, said Battalion Chief Jack Carper.

Photos from the scene show ladders that got firefighters to the second floor and there was smoke still rising from the home 30 minutes later.

The two people who live there weren't hurt and the American Red Cross is providing lodging assistance.
