NEWPORT NEWS -- Attorney General Mark Herring is in Newport News Tuesday as part of his two-week public safety tour of Virginia.

He'll hear from public safety and law enforcement leaders and politicians about the challenges they face protecting the people who live in their cities.

The first stop is in Newport News at 9:00 a.m. and then Herring will head to Petersburg and Richmond.

In all, he'll hold 22 meetings around the state.

'This office is uniquely positioned to coordinate responses to emerging public safety threats, to advocate for the needs of law enforcement and prosecutors, and to help spread innovative and effective strategies and programs,' said Herring.

I hope these conversations will provide valuable input on how best to focus our energies and allocate our offices' resources,' Herring added.
