NEWPORT NEWS -- A former Newport News police officer was found not guilty Tuesday of rape and forcible sodomy.

During his trial, Christopher Miner argued he had consensual sex with the woman in December 2008.

Her attorney countered the first encounter was consensual but then Miner got violent and refused to stop.

Miner no longer works for the police department.

He faces an abduction charge in an unrelated case.
