NEWPORT NEWS A vehicle struck a deer on the Interstate in Newport News Thursday morning, causing a crash that blocked the roadway for more than an hour.

Va. State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya said it happened around 5:17 a.m. on I-64 west near Denbigh Blvd.

The vehicle that struck the deer then struck another vehicle; there were minor injuries, Anaya stated.

Traffic was backed up because of the crash. At one point, both lanes were closed and drivers were using the shoulder to get around the vehicles.
