CHESAPEAKE -- A child struck by a car Thursday afternoon has died.
Police say 13-year-old Kelly Valentine was crossing at the intersection of Cedar Road and Country Club Boulevard around 4:00 p.m.
Police say the vehicle was traveling east on Cedar Road when it struck her.
She was taken to Sentara Norfolk General and died several hours later.
This accident is still under investigation and no charges are pending, according to police.
Grief counselors are available at her school for those who may need assistance, spokesman TomCupitt told WVEC.com.
Valentine's death has prompted the city's Traffic Engineering Division to conduct a comprehensive review of traffic issues along the Cedar Road corridor between Dominion Blvd. and Battlefield Blvd.
Staff will begin compiling accident data for the intersection of Cedar Road and Country Club Blvd., where Valentine was killed. They will also analyze the speed limit and do a safety audit of the corridor.
Preliminary findings and recommendations will be provided to the City Manager's Office by Friday, April 29.
