CHESAPEAKE - High water forced the City of Chesapeake to close the Steel Bridge for about 90 minutes on Sunday.

Spokesman Heath Covey said the span would likely reopen once the tide recedes.

The rising water flooded Dominion Blvd. between Cedar Road and Great Bridge Blvd. The bridge is within that section.

By mid-morning Sunday, parts of several roads were underwater, including Bainbridge Blvd. at Portlock Rd. and at Freeman Avenue.

Battlefield. Blvd. between Great Bridge Blvd. and Cedar Road also was closed.

Covey said drivers should expect flooding to recede and then roads to get covered again when high tide repeats later in the evening and during the Monday morning high tide cycle.
