12/2 UPDATE: Michael Odom Smith pleaded guilty and was sentenced Dec. 1 to charges of Manufacturing a Fire Bomb or Explosive Device (10 years with 7 years suspended), Arson of a Dwelling or Home (20 years with 8 years suspended), and Maliciously Throwing a Missile at Occupied Building (10 years with 8 years suspended).

City officials say he'll serve a total of 17 years with an indefinite supervised probation to begin upon his release.

SUFFOLK -- Police have arrested a Suffolk man for allegedly setting a string of fires over the last six weeks.

Charges against 29-year-old Michael Odom Smith of the 100 block of Brittany Lane include reckless handling of a firearm, concealed weapon carry while intoxicated, resisting lawful arrest, maliciously set fire to wood/fence/grass, and arson of an occupied dwelling.

Most recently, police say they responded to a brush fire in the 100 block of Brittany Lane, which is the scene of multiple suspicious fires over the last six weeks.

Police say the brush fire was extinguished by a neighbor, who happens to be Smith's parent.

Nobody was injured in any of the fires.

The investigation continues.
