NEWPORT NEWS -- Employees at a Newport News Verizon store locked themselves in seperate room to protect themselves from a man who was wearing a Halloween mask and trying to rob them.

According to police, a man wearing a wearing a black trench coat, dark pants, gloves and a white Scream-style Halloween mask showed a black, semi-automatic handgun and ordered the employees back inside the store on Jefferson Ave. Saturday morning.

Police say that during the robbery the employees were able to lock themselves in a room and the suspect could not gain further entry.

The suspect fled the business in a silver vehicle.
