PORTSMOUTH -- A two-story home in Portsmouth caught fire Tuesday night.

Firefighters responded to the call in the 100 block of Fairview Circle North around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Two people who were inside the home at the time managed to escape, according to Portsmouth Fire Chief Mike Stockton. A cat had to be rescued from the burning home.

Fire crews managed to put out the flames within minutes.

One resident was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
