7/14 UPDATE:16-year-oldCameron Gallagher had a heart condition called a 'cardiac arrhythmia' when she collapsed after finishing the Shamrock half-marathon inMarch, her father David Galalgher tells WRICTV.

'Grace and I are convinced that this was something of a freak occurrence because of Cameron's long, athletic background.', DavidGallagher told WRIC.

Cameron played basketball as a kid, ran with her family, and as a teen--competed on a swim team.

'And really had no symptoms of any heart conditions.'

In fact, her parents say Cameron had been tested about a year before for any heart conditions...and everything came back fine.

'We're shocked by this, it's probably the big thing because of Cameron's athletic history.'

3/17 UPDATE: WRIC-TVreports the teen's name is Cameron Gallagher and that she attended St. Gertrude HS and later transfered to Douglas Freeman High in Richmond.

Chief Ed Brazle released the following information Monday:
A large EMS presence was on standby throughout the weekend's race events. For the marathon and half marathons, over 80 emergency medical personnel were deployed using ambulances, golf carts, bicycles and foot patrols. At one time, 14 ambulances were on site, 12 from the Rescue Squads of Virginia Beach and 2 from the Navy Mid-Atlantic Regional Fire Department. Medical tents staffed by physicians, nurses and allied professionals were also available along the race route. EMS crews evaluated 19 patients Sunday, transporting 4 of them to the hospital. An unknown number of additional patients self-reported to the medical tents for assistance.
