NEWPORT NEWS -- The Peninsula Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to deliver meals to clients on Meals on Wheels.

Summer is always a tough time for the program because school is out and volunteers go on vacation. This year, the program has also lost volunteers because of their advancing age.

'Our clients love to see the volunteers. A lot of times that's the only visitor they'll have from someone during the day,' said Gerald Patesel, the Director of Community Services for the agency.

The program delivers meals to about 450 seniors a day in Newport News, Hampton and Poquoson.

If someone would like to volunteer but can't commit to doing it five days a week, the agency always has a need for people to serve as substitute drivers.

Anyone interested in volunteering should call the Peninsula Agency on Aging at 757-873-0541.
