UPDATE 8/18 8:40 a.m.: City offiicals tell WVEC.com that the owner of the property is bringing in a company to shore up building this morning.
Princess Anne Road between Tidewater Drive and Hanson will be closed until the building is either secured or demolished, said City spokeswoman Lori Crouch. 'An assessment underway this morning,' she said.
Motorists are encouraged to use E. Virginia Beach Boulevard and Goff Street as alternate routes.
NORFOLK -- An inspector will determine if an old building along East Princess Anne Road should be demolished after the building started collapsing.
Emergency workers were at the building for hours Sunday after getting a call that the roof of the building began to collapse.
The building, which is vacant, is located at the corner of East Princess Anne Road and Courtney Avenue, near Booker T. Washington High School.
The City of Norfolk said Sunday that Princess Anne Road between Bolton Street and Hanson will be closed through the morning commute as a pre caution because of the unstable building.
