VIRGINIA BEACH-A Virginia man died after completing the Rock 'N' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon at the Oceanfront Sunday.
The runner, a 27-year-old man, started feeling bad near the end of the race. According to Beach MPO Adam Bernstein, the runner crossed the finish line and headed to a medical tent for evaluation.
The man was taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General, where he died.
Bernstein did not identify the runner or his hometown, but noted that he was not from Hampton Roads. The cause of death was also not released.
This is the second consecutive year in which a runner died following the race. Erik Wellumson, 23, from Chesapeake, died after collapsing during the 2009 marathon.
