VIRGINIA BEACH(AP) -- A Philadelphia sports and entertainment company will present a proposal for a new arena to the Virginia Beach City Council.
The construction of an 18,000-seat arena could help Virginia land a professional sports franchise.
Officials from Comcast-Spectacor will brief council members on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Comcast-Spectacor owns the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, and the Wells Fargo Center.
Councilman Bill DeSteph told 13News Tuesday, 'If they expect the city to pay for it, when we're having a hard time paying for our teachers, police and infrastructure, I probably won't support it.'
Virginia Beach is the state's largest city with a population of about 430,000. It is a heavily suburban area and is part of a metropolitan statistical area that has nearly 1.7 million residents.
