NORFOLK -- A Norfolk man was sentenced Friday to life in prison plus 38 years for killing an elderly man during a home burglary.

The attorney for Eugene Williams, Jr. said there would be an appeal.

77-year-old Louis A. Daniel Jr.was found dead in his home in the Cromwell House Apartments on June 15, 2011.

Daniels' brother John said his brother was a gentle man who loved animals.

He says the family is grateful to police for finding the evidence to catch the killer.

Police say the killer entered through Daniels window 'so lock your windows,' Daniels stated.

Williams was convicted of first Degree Murder, armed burglary, grand larceny and use of a firearm.

Williams was also sentenced to 40 more years for probation violations, said Commonwealth's Attorney spokeswoman Amanda Howie.
