NORFOLK - The rebirth of Wards Corner continues with the opening Wednesday of Harris Teeter.
The ribbon cutting will be at 8 a.m. in the K&K Square at Wards Corner at 7550 Granby St.
The store, the company's second in Norfolk, will be open from 6 a.m. to midnight.
According to the Wards Corner Civic League newsletter, other stores scheduled to open are Starbucks, Subway, Sleepy's and Albano Cleaners. Moe's Southwest Grill, Great Clips, and nTelos Wireless will likely open before mid-March. Towne Bank is expected to open a branch with a drive-through and ATM in May/June 2014.
The civic league also says the BP gas station property is under contract and should go to closing soon. The underground gasoline tanks must be removed. There's talk of a 4,000 square foot retail building going up there, but there are no firm plans.
Attending Wednesday's grand opening will be Mayor Paul Fraim and company officials.
