HAMPTON -- A large piece of black-top machinery was recently stolen from a Hampton church parking lot.

John Turlington, owner of J&E Blacktop and Asphalt Services, noticed it missing Tuesday.

'I nearly had a heart attack and I called police immediately,' Turlington said.

The equipment is an asphalt hot box with an infrared machine on the front and has been parked at the Warwick Assembly of God Church every night since 2006. It is valued at approximately $35,000 and weighs 6,000 pounds.

Turlington says it is the only piece of equipment of its kind on the Peninsula.

'Nobody else that I have ever known in this area has got one like it,' Turlington said.

A neighbor says she believes she saw a man in a white pickup truck drive off with it.

'I was really surprised because it was locked. I don't know how they got it unlocked,' Turlington said.

A $1,000 reward is being offered to the person who returns it.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
